Charles Osborne – Main Action clean up
I think the main action is going to come up really nicely. The gun is nicely engraved and quite a bit of effort has gone into it. Here is a photo of the first side with just the top cleaned so far..

Tony,
This is an interesting photo! I had not realised that the fancy shape didnot extent right accross the stock head abuttment, your photo shows it to be only a chamfer! The stocker must have had nightmares heading that up.What a lovely gun.
Chris,
France.
P.S. I am really glad I found your Website, very interesting and informative!
Hi Chris, I actually did this gun for a mate, he has it now and he is VERY happy with it. The stock took some work but it was worth it, really nice gun actually.
That is a super nice gun Tony, I would like one in 16……..ship me one over….ha…..
Best,
Doug—
I wish, should have kept it myself
im about to start a restoration project on a fine 1872 webley sxs shotgun. your action is coming out superb, how did you clean it up? also is there a source for external hammers for this gun one is missing? regards bob
Hi Robert. I’ve used a light VERY light brass dremel before for very tough grubb rubbish removal. More recently I’ve invested in a glass bead/shot blaster and that IS amazing. It doesn’t attack or touch the metal at all and takes off blue, rust, pits, and blacking from metal. Good luck with your restoration and keep in touch. If you are in the UK. Google EJ Blackely. They sell hammers and are excellent for this type of thing.
