Stephen Grant – Completed

This is my first fitted vintage shotgun. A favourite maker of mine and I love the fence engraving on most Grants. This gun dates to 1905 and is a top lever which is unusual for Grants as most of them of that era were side levers. Anyway, here are some pictures of this pretty...

George Gibbs 20 Bore Finished

George Gibbs was one of those provincial makers, out in Bristol, but with patents to his name. This beautiful little 20 bore has his own patented cocking mechanism in it which throws the hammes from the main leave system. It’s very clever and I can’t wait to try this little gun. It has the...

Gibbs Woodwork Finished

I haven’t really had much time recently but I did manage this week to get the stock finished on the Gibbs. There is a lovely piece of wood under there and it’s now off this weekend to my checkering man to get that re-cut. I hope you agree it’s a nice piece of wood!

H Hussey Project Complete

I’ve been really keen to get this finished. It’s be re-checkered and the repair to the hand, complete with titanium rods, is complete. This thing is going to be stronger than before and I’ve tried to keep it as crisp as possible whilst having to re-finish it due to the repair. I have to...

Stephen Grant Bought from Holts

There were a few guns I was interested in here. This one was the one I really wanted. It is a  big project, broken horns etc but it is a very nice example with best Grant engraving. I think it might just come up beautifully. Either way it’ll keep my brain engaged in the...

Hussey Locks

Took some photos of these. They are a demonstration of beautiful English engineering at it’s best. They still have colours from the original case hardening process. Splendid.

Lancaster and Bland Stocks

I’ve been refinishing the stocks for both of these sidelocks. Coming along nicely. I’m trying a new format of 6-7 coats of London gunstock finish, first slurried, then finishing with 10 coats of very fine french polish…the last phase will be to dull them down for a fab satin finish.

Charles Lancaster Sidelock

Charles Lancaster Sidelock

This gun is from around 1914. It has an exquisite engraving style and is typical of the quality that one expects from the Charles Lancaster stable. I always hold and marvel at sidelocks, got a bit of a soft spot for London sidelocks I must say, and it is always a pleasure to look...
