The stock has taken quite a while to complete. Luckily it has a very similar figure to the number 1...
This had proven a real problem. The metal composition was different at the front of the guard and as you can see with traditional salt blacking they turned out a real mess. I had to go back to basics and try something new. First a low increase in the salts temperature…an hour or more...

It’s now ready for the engraver. It’s losely fitted to the stock (which I’m half way through finishing) just for the photos. I can see I’ve got a bit of wood filling to do…all good clean fun.
I’ve filed back one of the plates. It’s always a compromise deciding what corrosion to laser over…I’ve had to leave a bit around some of the pin holes but I think a tidy up and after colour case hardening it’ll be harder to detect. All filed by hand…takes a while.
This is the second Grant of my composed pair. Which needs restoration. I’m grappling with two options. 1) clean the corrosion and get it laser welded, filed down, re-engraved and re-colour case harden it. Which means I will probably need to CCH the 1st of the pair too otherwise it’ll look really odd. OR...

Finished. Fitted…Cased. Looks quite nice in the case. It’s a really nice leather bound oak case. Label from AGL and a bit of restoration work all round to make the gun fit and tidy up the inside. I hope this will by my gun for this season…
