Commissioned Muzzle Loader Project Complete

Friend of mine asked me to restore an un-named muzzle loader. Looks English made to me but who am I to judge. The wood is really nice. He want dings and dents to remain but a new like finish. It’s been hanging on his wall for 40 years. His dad last fired it in...

H Clarke – Completed

This was a mammoth job..and took quite a while whilst I was in hospital quite a bit this first half of the year. Anyway, it’s finished. I’m really chuffed with this little gun. I intend to fire it soon. Given the very poor state it was in it’s really come good. Lovely rare little...

W. Needler – New Project

A quick browse around the CLA game fair turned into despair. Too many Mirokus, Berettas, you name it. Not enough vintage oldies to do up. Two things I did find. One was a Westley Richards percussion gun but it had been messed around with and just wasn’t right and too much asking. Then I...

Clarke – Re-coloured

Always a nervous affair dropping metal heated to 723 degrees C into freezing water. Anyway, here is the Clarke parts re-coloured. Thanks to Doug for the mix from Brownells in the US and his advice on the ration. Hammers could be better but I’m pretty happy with the rest of it.

Clarke Barrels and Action

I had completely written off this little gun. The barrels were dreadfully pitted and I thought at best it would be a sleeve job. However, wonders have been worked. It’s been re-honed, tightened up, flown through proof (and it flew through!) and cleaned up, the ribs have been re-laid and here we are. You...

Clarke Woodwork – Recovered?

I’ve had to take quite a bit of wood back. I think it’s now sanded enough for my checkerer to restore to at least something close to original. Going to start finishing the wood later. Pictures here;

H. Clarke Restoration – Mammoth Task!

I bought this little gun for £100. The barrels were very close to being out of proof and the insides looked like someone had dumped water in them and shove a cork in either end for 30 years. It was in very poor condition. With this in mind I gave the stock to a...

George Gibbs 20 Bore Finished

George Gibbs was one of those provincial makers, out in Bristol, but with patents to his name. This beautiful little 20 bore has his own patented cocking mechanism in it which throws the hammes from the main leave system. It’s very clever and I can’t wait to try this little gun. It has the...
