Very Sorry to announce the passing of Tony Treadwell this morning in the hospital with Marie holding his hand. Tony wishes to thank all of you that frequent this site for your friendship and contributions.

God Bless you Tony Treadwell and thank you for all that you have given to the Gun Community around the world. You will be with us forever and never forgotten Tony…….

Purdey Bar-in-Wood stock done

Excitedely picked up, like a smay ball unable to contain himself walking into a sweet shop, I’ve been waiting for this. Anyway, the stocker, Colin, had done the most unbelievable job. Sharp edges, perfect lines, drops in perfect place. I am so happy. Clearly it’s very light at the momentn however, I’ve just added the first Alkanet roo coat and it’s already darkening up. The photos of the action on the stock are not from my camera (forgot it) so they are not up to the usual standard.

Over the next few days I’ll be getting that colour right before the oiling starts.

Here we are 3 coats in and the wood is coming along. The lines on this piece of wood are so sharp and the stocker is a true genious.

6 coats in and we can now see the wood deepening in colour.

Parsons – Gold Strip Reresh

The Parsons 10 bore muzzle loader had two gold strips on the top of the drum. Philip Duffill has put some new in. I’m probably going to put the gun back together and shoot it now. Philip starts by making a slightly deeper v shaped key so that the gold can be tapped into place. It’s quite a skilled process for sure. It looks nice now and ready to refit.

Manton and Co

A good friend of mine picked me up to go to Holts on Tuesday evening. I managed to hobble around the place but in truth shouldn’t have gone. However, I was caught by a little Manton and Co. Manton and Co was setup by Josephs son in India. However a company called Wallis, who also purchased the Nock business, purchased Manton and Co and I am assuming that the gun would have been made in London or more likely Birmingham. Others more knowledgable will put me straight I hope!

Parsons Browning – Eezox

Bar in Wood Purdey – Restock Update

I went over to go and see the Purdey Bar-in-Wood I’m having re-stocked today. It’s fair to say I was a little worried and disappointed with the wood. I’ve recovered now realising that these photos clearly do not do the wood justice. It’s dirty and will darken up a lot etc. I’m very keen to get this gun and I pressured my stocker to get it down by the end of the month so that I can start finishing the wood and other parts! Excited but impatient in summary!

WC Parsons Barrel Browning

Parsons Barrels

This gun has a nasty, shellac, kind of finish. It looks nice and shiny but it just isn’t right for how it would have looked when built. So I’ve decided to put it right. I haven’t done much work recently but I got up this morning and the sun was shining and it did need it’s 3rd carding and applying of solutions! Because I’ve been ill the browning had been on a couple of days and it’s actually worked out in my favour with the twist starting to show out.

I’ve been racking my brain over whether to do this or not. In the end. I saw it as an investment and worthy heirloom for my son. It’s going to be restocked, repicked, the works. Quite a rare and nice thing. Early original Witworth Steel barrels too and 28-31 tho. So amazing really. Had to be got.
